The challenge
We’ve been working with Humber College, one of Canada’s top higher education institutions, to find more effective ways to communicate with global stakeholders.
Whether you’re speaking to prospective students, recruitment agents or institutional partners, delivering an engaging presentation is a necessary skill. Traditional slide decks made on PowerPoint or similar software have the benefit of being easy to use, but it’s not necessarily easy to make something that truly stands out. Creating a high-quality presentation requires time and design expertise, and often aren’t a priority for busy in-house design teams.
There are other limitations too. PowerPoint presentations are not dynamic documents. If you want to send the presentation to participants, of course you can provide them with the .pptx file, but when information might change quickly, the only way to ensure everyone has the latest version is by resending it as a new email attachment each time. Aside from taking up time in your day, this leads to multiple versions of the same document in circulation, increasing the risk of miscommunication.
Even more critical is the inability to track engagement. There’s no way of knowing whether recipients had opened the presentations, which slides are being viewed the most, and where any potential conversions might be falling off.
These inefficiencies highlighted the need for a more dynamic, adaptable, and impactful communication tool.
The solution
We’ve long touted the benefits of digital brochures as a replacement for print prospectuses. Some of Humber’s recruiters have found that they’re also an excellent replacement for standard slide decks.
Our interactive brochures allow our clients to embed rich multimedia elements such as videos, animations, and interactive links, creating a more immersive and engaging experience. And unlike traditional slide decks, which follow a fixed linear progression, digital brochures offer Humber’s representatives the ability to adapt their presentations in real-time. During virtual meetings or in-person sessions, a presenter can quickly navigate to sections most relevant to audience questions or interests, fostering a more personalized experience.
theRACK’s intuitive editing system means that Humber College can make real-time changes to content without needing to resend files to multiple people, ensuring that all recruiters utilising brochures in this manner are working with compliant, up-to-date information. Just send out a link to the brochure and everyone gets the same updates, at the same time.
The results
To date, the college has created 13 publications on theRACK, which have been seen by over 140,000 active users. theRACK’s analytics dashboard allows new insights into which sections were viewed most frequently and by whom, enabling Humber to refine its messaging based on real data.
Currently, we are working with Humber to develop an agent training manual which serves the same dual purpose as a slide deck. Using the interactive brochure format, Humber College will have a dynamic, easily navigable resource for their international recruitment agents, enabling them to better represent the institution to prospective students worldwide. By moving beyond the constraints of traditional slide decks, they can be sure that their global audience receives content that is engaging, relevant, and impactful.
